Aquacup Delivers Integrated Pipeline Direct Drinking Water Solution for Wuhan Carbon Exchange Building

July 2024

In July 2024, Aquacup, an international water technology brand under China Water Affairs Group (00855.HK), announced the successful operation of its pipeline direct drinking water system with a customized solar-themed equipment room at Wuhan Carbon Exchange Building.

The project provides drinking water services for the building, its financial industry park, and commercial complex. It represents Aquacup’s direct drinking water solution application in high-end public buildings.

Project Background: Supporting a National Low-Carbon Landmark Building

Wuhan Carbon Exchange Building is the location of China’s national carbon emission trading registration and settlement system, serving as an important platform for carbon market registration and settlement. As a representative low-carbon building project, the building has high requirements for supporting facilities, operational efficiency, and sustainable development.

Traditional bottled water supply models may involve plastic consumption, transportation-related carbon emissions, and complex operation management, which are less aligned with the goals of green and low-carbon buildings. To address these needs, Aquacup provided an integrated pipeline direct drinking water solution featuring a customized open-view equipment room design. The solution combines safe drinking water supply, efficient operation, and architectural integration, supporting the building’s sustainable development goals.

Technical Solution: Nanofiltration Purification with Innovative Equipment Room Design

Aquacup’s direct drinking water system for Wuhan Carbon Exchange Building adopts:

  •  Nanofiltration membrane purification technology;
  •  Food-grade stainless steel independent circulating pipeline system;
  •  Centralized water production with distributed circulation.

The nanofiltration process helps remove contaminants including heavy metals, bacteria, and viruses while retaining natural beneficial minerals.

The independent circulating pipeline system continuously supports stable and fresh water quality at different water outlets.

Integrated Pipeline Direct Drinking Water Solution with Innovative Equipment Room Design

A key feature of the project is Aquacup’s customized solar-themed equipment room.

The equipment room design incorporates Wuhan’s regional characteristics of rivers and waterways and integrates with the architectural style of the building.

Different from traditional enclosed water treatment rooms, the solar-themed equipment room combines functionality with visual presentation, creating an integrated water facility within the building environment.

The system serves the building, surrounding financial industry park, and commercial complex through an integrated drinking water supply system.

Supporting Low-Carbon Development Through Direct Drinking Water Solutions

Pipeline direct drinking water systems provide environmental benefits by reducing dependence on bottled water and lowering plastic consumption and transportation-related carbon emissions.

According to the research project “Integration of Key Technologies for Pipeline Direct Drinking Water and Construction of Carbon Emission Reduction Measurement and Accounting System” jointly conducted by Aquacup and the China Agricultural and Typical Industry Carbon Reduction and Carbon Trading Research Center of Hubei University:

If annual pipeline direct drinking water usage reaches 45 million tons, the system could:

  •  Reduce bottled water consumption by 2.4 billion times
  •  Reduce the production of approximately 40 million plastic water barrels
  •  Reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 128,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent

The research aims to support the establishment of a unified carbon emission reduction measurement methodology and promote the inclusion of pipeline direct drinking water solutions in carbon benefit mechanisms.
